Antigua

Antigua is the larger island out of the Caribbean nation of Antigua and Barbuda. It is notable for its heady mix of tranquil isolation and energetic islanders; you can switch over from unhurried introspection to uninterrupted party simply by walking a dozen yards!

The uninhabited island of Redonda lies a brief boat journey away; and the sea around these parts is notable for hosting some of the best scuba spots in the world. So pack some sunscreen, comfy swim trunks, and your best beach attire!

It is time you treat yourself to luxuriant sights that the world can only dream of.

The Antigua Experience

The first thing you will notice - after all the beautiful people cavorting in the Caribbean Sea - is the ubiquity of cricket. Antigua birthed the legendary Sir Viv Richards, and aspiring cricketers play quick games anywhere - from the grounds at St John's to any stretch of sand long enough to bowl down! Join one of these impromptu matchups for a firsthand taste of cricket in the Indies.

The best diving spots can be found off the eastern coast. Some locals recommend Darkwood Beach for the nearby fragment of reef, but the clearest waters (and best stretches of coral) can be found by boating a little ways off the mainland.

The party extends around the whole of Antigua around sunset; but an old British fort known as Shirley Point serves both as an exquisite lookout point and the most happening nightspot. Cover charges have gotten a bit steep in recent months, but you are likely to meet spirited travellers and energetic locals here. Let them guide you to duty-free shops and speakeasies that you might otherwise miss!

And finally, the cuisine. Antiguans are understandably keen on seafood; apart from Fungee and Saltfish, a national favourite, you can find various combinations of fish and tropical fruit served with a Jamaican, Mexican, or British twist. Shop around for your preferred combinations!
